Are you an undergraduate at UH? Are you interested in PR, marketing, social media, outreach, web development, or multimedia and video production? Are you also interested in an internship (COM 495) or independent study option involving the use of communication and information technology to promote more sustainable energy use on campus? The Kukui Cup project needs you! The Kukui Cup is a state-of-the-art dorm energy competition to be held in September, 2012. Interns will assist in designing, promoting and implementing the competition, which includes a custom web application with mobile and Facebook integration, a variety of online energy competition games, real-time energy and power monitoring of each participating Hale Aloha lounge, and more.
If you are a dynamic, energetic student who wants to participate in this project, we are looking for one or more of the following:
- PR: to inform and involve participants.
- Marketing: create a marketing plan along with posters, brochures, and other marketing materials.
- Graphic/Web design: design t-shirts, buttons, banners, icons, and more.
- Social media: develop Facebook, Twitter, and other online presences.
- Outreach: manage relationships with stakeholders including Blue Planet Foundation, Kanu Hawaii, HECO, and more.
- Education/public communication: The Kukui Cup includes a variety of "energy literacy" modules that you can design and promote.
- Web app development: If you're proficient with Python and CSS, we've got a great system for you to hone your skills on.
- Video and multimedia development.
- Special Event planning and management.
We intend this to be a great opportunity for you to help change the way incoming students think about energy and gain valuable research experience at the same time. This internship is intended to fulfill course credit hours and internship requirements. Start date is flexible. If you are interested, please send a brief email to Michelle Katchuck, katchuck@hawaii.edu, indicating what aspects of the project you are interested in and what kind of background you have in the area. Please also let us know if you currently live or have lived in the Hale Aloha residence halls. If you are not interested, but think you know someone who might be, please feel free to forward this notice.
